Since fall 2021, Tru Ludwig has co-hosted Series Two of Platemark, a podcast dedicated to the history of Western prints and printmaking. Beginning with Albrecht Dürer, the series features deep dives into the lives and techniques of masters such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Titian, Jacques Callot, and Hendrick Goltzius.
The series is a digital evolution of the legendary course Ludwig taught eighteen times at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Originally built around immersive field trips and first-hand study at the Baltimore Museum of Art, the course has been reimagined for a global audience. The transition from classroom to podcast is the brainchild of co-host Ann Shafer, who recognized the vital importance of preserving Ludwig’s scholarship.
By translating these remarkable lectures into an accessible format, Shafer and Ludwig aim to provide a comprehensive resource that can stand in for college curricula where specialized print history is otherwise unavailable.
